Want to Try Pistol Competition but Don’t Know Where to Start?
Steel Challenge is one of the best entry points into active pistol shooting. It’s simple, safe, beginner-friendly, and you get to shoot a lot.
This half-day introductory session is designed for shooters who are curious about pistol matches but aren’t quite sure how to jump in.
We’ll start in the classroom with a simple overview of:
Match terminology
Safety protocols
Range commands
What to expect at your first match
How a Steel Challenge stage works
Then we’ll head to the range and shoot a live-fire stage or two.
And yes — you’ll shoot. A lot.
Who is this for?
This is for anyone who is already comfortable safely handling and shooting a pistol. You do not need to be an expert. You do not need match experience. You do not need to be fast.
You just need to be able to handle your pistol safely, follow instructions, point the firearm in a safe direction, and clear the occasional jam.
That’s it.
A .22 LR semi-automatic pistol is preferred, and it’s the easiest way to get started. Shooters who want to use a 9mm pistol may do so, but 9mm shooters will need a proper holster.
What to bring:
.22 LR pistol, preferably semi-automatic
Eye protection
Ear protection
Ammunition
Bag or box for your pistol
Several magazines
Magazine note:
5 magazines is best.
4 works fine.
3 is manageable.
2 means less shooting and more reloading.
For 9mm shooters: bring your pistol, ammo, magazines, eye/ear protection, and a safe holster.
Steel Challenge is fun, approachable, and a great way to build confidence on the range.
Come learn the game, shoot some steel, and see why so many people get hooked after their first match.
